E-Commerce - Country Domains versus 1 Domain?
-
Hi,
Just wanted to get some feedback and opinions re the idea of segmenting our ecommerce site languages under various domains, like .jp for japanese, .it for italian etc...
I do understand the geolocation benefits that this could bring us, but on the flipside, it would mean that we would need to grow our domain authority, link buiding per country domain, which is quite a bit of work.
Has anyone ever considered or implemented this and any thoughts?
Thanks!
-
I'd agree, it's hard work! But, that's why we get paid a nice salary, to figure out those difficult problems. If you have an idea of the Customer Lifetime Value, for that country, you can get some decent estimates from the expected increase in traffic when targeting that country specifically.
-
Thank you for your answer.
It´s hard to estimate the value this one particular country would add - we work with a niche and getting estimates as to the volume of extra business it could yield is hard, SEMRush is helpful though.
-
My thoughts are as follows:
-
Do the country specific search engines add / have the potential to add a lot of value to your business?
-
If no, then do not worry about the country specific domains
-
If yes, identify the specific countries that can add more value
-
Are you having trouble ranking in those country specific search engines?
-
If no, then continue with the single domain and adjust your 1 website to be more friendly to all countries
-
If yes, do a cost-benefit analysis about the work it would entail to get country specific websites and the value you can derive from the expected increase in rankings

Can you target the same site with multiple country HREFlang entries?
Hi, I have a question regarding the country targeting aspect of HREFLANG. Can the same site be targeted with multiple country HREFlang entries? Example: A global company has an English South African site (geotargeted in webmaster tools to South Africa), with a hreflang entry targeted to "en-za", to signify English language and South Africa as the country. Could you add entries to the same site to target other English speaking South African countries? Entries would look something like this: (cd = Congo, a completely random example) etc... Since you can only geo-target a site to one country in WMT would this be a viable option? Thanks in advance for any help! Vince

Are NON French companies allowed to own domains in France?
Hi, I was wondering if any one knows if the French government has changed it's stance in recent years to the ownership of domains in their country. My understanding is that it can be pretty difficult to own a domain there if you do not reside there. In the past I have had people register domains using their passport as identification to prove their domicile in that country. We like many others have sites with .com/fr etc. and we do have one domain that is a .fr and seriously out performs the .com version. Many thanks for any input on this question. David *** UPDATE - Sorry no need for a response, I've just been informed that businesses who are located in a Member State of the European Union (EU) are allowed to own .fr domains which the French government needs to comply with. Best, David

Does the location of my Domain Registrar affect SEO?
Does the location of my Domain Registrar affect SEO? For example, if my hosting company is in the U.S., but the domain registrar is overseas. Also, is it better to have both services be met by one company?

How to rank in Google for a specific country?
Hi, I've a relative good ranking for a specific keyword in google.com (english queries (hl=en)), but searching for the same keyword in google.com.br (Brazilian Portuguese (hl=pt-BR)), my rank for that keyword is far worst. The question is: I need to do something specific to rank in google.com.br (hl=pt-BR)? I'm doing the regular link building. Creating some blogs, blogging for 10 days before droping my links, and creating link wheels the same way. The blogs I create to make links are written in Brazilian Portuguese, also, the blog that I'm trying to rank higher, is also written in Brazilian Portuguese. Sorry for the english, it's not my native language. Thanks
